When deleting a file, it is permanently deleted instead of moved to waste basket (Ubuntu 18.04)

I use veracrypt 1.23 on Ubuntu 18.04 with relatively large standard volumes formatted using ext4. I have noticed that when I want to delete a file, I get a message saying that it will be permanently removed. My expectation is that I can press delete, and the file goes into the waste basket, as is standard behavior on Ubuntu.
