    I tried to log in.
I got the log in screen and entered the password.
After I pushed enter the cursor dropped down a line and just flashed.
I just restarted and hit esc key.

At that point it just said that the log in failed.

That was the only error meaage I recieved.

I had an option at that point to restore the default start for W10 so I did.

After the password, did you get prompted for the PIM?

Did you merely hit return for the PIM or did you use a custom value for the PIM?

How long did you wait with the flashing cursor before you restarted the system? Some systems can take several minutes before booting into Windows due to the higher iterations performed on the hash in VeraCrypt and the 16-bit bootloader code.

Which version of VeraCrypt are you running?

      Version : 1.0f-1
      Rease: 1/4/15

I tried again and after I entered the password all I got was a flashing cursor.

      I waited 10 minutes.

When I rebooted I got an error message that initialzation failed.

Did you select encrypt the entire system drive or just the OS partition?

The problem sounds like you are trying to encrypt the entire system drive which contains the System Reserved partition which you can see in the Windows Disk Management. You cannot encrypt the System Reserved partition with VeraCrypt due to it will prevent the system from booting.

Try selecting only the OS partition for encryption.

Can you post a screenshot from Windows Disk Management to see if there is an issue with the flags set for the partitions?

I need to see all the wording for all disks. Please screenshot the top section of the Disk Management which should show all the disks and adjust accordingly so I can see all the wording in the Status column.

    Thank you.

I do not see any issues with the partitions from your screenshot.

Is your BIOS setup to boot using Legacy mode? VeraCrypt does not support UEFI booting.

Are you using the latest BIOS firmware update for your specific model?

      It is booting legacy Mode.

      I get regular updates.

How do I verify that BIOS are up to date and/or get any neccessary update?

You will need to Google search for your PC manufacture's and specific model of your computer.

It appears you have an HP PC. In my experience, HP has horrible update software. I removed it from my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system due to old or incorrect drivers being installed causing instability issues. I manually search for updates on the HP driver download site. To find the latest BIOS for Win 7, I have to set my search criteria for the OS to Win 8 on the HP drive download site. Otherwise, it only finds the first BIOS that was released for my PC and there have been numerous BIOS releases until Windows 10 was released. It seems that when Windows 10 was released, HP's driver detection "forgot" about the latest Win 7 driver releases.

The thread below was on Windows 7 issue similar to your issue.

You can try the repair of the MBR and Boot on your system. I hope the same commands work for Windows 10.

The latest version of VeraCrypt (1.16) should be used to benefit from all fixes and features.

I think you are just encountering a very long boot issue that may happen in some configurations.
Latest VeraCrypt versions introduced a feature called PIM that makes the boot process quick. If you have used it, it is possible that VeraCrypt boot would have worked.

Can you do a test using VeraCrypt 1.16 by specifying a PIM = 1? I'm interested in knowing the result because your situation looks more a time issue than any other thing.

If really there was a boot problem, then you either don't see the VeraCrypt bootloader at all or you see it and after entering the password it will be stuck with the message "booting...".

You don't have any of these symptoms and that's why I think that PIM=1 will solve your issue.

    Worked.

Now in the process of encrypting in the back ground.

    Thanks again for your assistance.
