VeraCrypt portable with my SSD

    Hi,
I bought an external SSD (SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 2To). I want to use VeraCrypt with it without a big impact on performances. I want to have VeraCrypt portable version on my SSD to be able to mount encrypted SSD (so I cannot encrypt all my SSD from what I understand).

    I see multiple solutions:
    - Formatting it in NTFS, create 2 partitions (a little one for Veracrypt portable and the other that will be encrypted)
    - Create an encrypted file container

I do not know what is the best solution for SSD lifetime, performances and security with my SSD.

    Can you help me please?

    Thank you in advance.

One potential problem I see is if you put veracrypt portable on it and try to use it in a computer you do not have administrative privilages it may not work.

As for security, thats up to you good password +PIM+ keyfile good luck trying to crack the right 3 combinations.

SSD lifetime go to manufacturers website look at specs.

Unless you are going to be using it for torrent traffic which writes and you will replace files regularly you should be okay.

Don't forget to keep a backup in a safe place.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Performances:
I already use the "file container" method on an HDD with VeraCrypt portable but on my SSD (it replaces the HDD), to have the best performances, I do not know if I can do the same (A folder containing VeraCrypt portable and a file container of X To that I have to mount) or if I can create 2 partitions and encrypt one of the partitions with VeraCrypt.
My processor is recent and manages AES.
Is there a best solution for performances?

    SSD lifetime:
Also, is there a difference impacting SSD lifetime with the first (file container method) and the second solution (encrypted partition on SSD)?

    Security:
I heard that there is a potentially problem with TRIM for SSD using VeraCrypt. It was recommanded to encrypt all the SSD to have no problem but, as I want to have VeraCrypt portable on my SSD instead of installing it on all my computers, is there a best solution or a risk with the 2 solutions that I thought?
