I encrypted my system partition with hibernation working fine after encrypting. However it now has randomly started to fail to resume from hibernation everytime I try to. I have updated windows sometime after encrypting, but not sure if that effects anything. Though a previews thread shows it could be an issue.
I checked Event Viewer and found this error. "Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC000009A."
Im using VeraCrypt 1.24-Update7

After applying the change, reboot your computer for the changes to take effect on your PC.
Starting with VeraCrypt 1.24 Update 7:
Warn about Fast Startup if it is enabled during VeraCrypt installation/upgrade, when starting system encryption or when creating a volume, and propose to disable it.
Are you using the VeraCrypt RAM encryption? Per the release notes:
Side effect: Windows Hibernate is not possible if VeraCrypt System Encryption is also being used.
Have you Google searched "Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC000009A."?
Seems to be a common error with wake timers not set.

I have found a temporary fix to this issue. I found a discussion thread with a similar problem where a system that had Windows updated was hibernated, then was not able to boot into Windows, though fixed by re-encrypting the system partition.
I performed this and hibernation is working again as it should. Though this unfortunately means I’ll have to re-encrypt the system partition after every update for hibernation to continue to work, so I wouldn't consider this issue solved.

I've started to get the issue again with hibernation, though less consistent now. I checked Event Viewer again more thoroughly and found these errors occur each time upon boot after hibernation fails.
“Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC000009A.”
“The previous system shutdown at 3:18:53 PM on 2/4/2021 was unexpected.”
“The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.”
The second error I believe is showing when I put my PC into hibernation.

Before I found it, I never suspected that the problem could be caused by VeraCrypt. @sinon434 @Thomas, have you every found a solution/cause for your errors?

The error code 0xC000009A translates to STATUS_INSUFFICIENT_RESOURCES. This means that the system ran out of memory while resuming from hibernation.
It is not clear if this memory issue is caused by VeraCrypt or other software on the machine. This hibernation issue is know to happen to some Windows users even without VeraCrypt being installed. Usual advice in such situations is to reduce memory usage before hibernation by closing unnecessary applications and , in the case of VeraCrypt, dismount unneeded volumes.
As test in case where hibernation works, can you measure the memory usage of your PC just before hibernation and just after resuming from hibernation? this can give us some hints if memory usage is larger after resuming from hibernation (for example we can notice that a specific process uses much more). You can use Task Manager for this test.

thank you for the response @idrassi !
You are right, that the issue is caused by memory running out.
I can easily reproduce it now by running i.e.:
testlimit64 -d 20000 -c 1
which gets my RAM usage up to around 80% and then hibernating the computer. Tried a few times and it always failing to resume from hibernation.
On the other hand, when I hibernate with a low RAM usage, it always resumes succesfully from hibernation.
I tried what you suggested, but I didn't see a difference in the RAM usage level after sucessfully resuming from hibernation.
Ran a few rounds of memtest, but no errors were found.
So in order to definatelly confirm if this issue is related to VeraCrypt, or if is it an offtopic for this forum, I wanted to compare how the hibernation is working with and without the VeraCrypt system encryption - now I can easyli reproduce the issue, right?
I am using a new laptop, just under few weeks old. I encrypted the system partition with VeraCrypt straight away, so I cannot say if the issue existed before I encrypted.
So I pernamently decrypted the system partition in order to test hibernation, but now both sleep and hibernation are not working for me 😂 - screen just goes black, but the system does not sleep/hibernate at all.
So now I need to figure out why the sleep/hibernation is not working for me after decrypting the system partition in order to check if the whole issue is related to VeraCrypt 😂

Just wanted to follow up on this thread since I'm facing the same issue. The issue started appearing only after I've encrypted the drive, and it happens only if the RAM utilization is high (more that 50%).
I have tried various things, but I was not able to fix the issue, and I wanted to check if anyone here managed to find a solution to this problem?

What is the make and model is your PC?
Is your BIOS version running the most current firmware?
What version of Windows are you running and is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
You can click on the lower left Windows icon and type winver to get the Windows OS version.
For 32 or 64-bit, see link below.
