    Hello,

I wanted to do a full disk encryption of my system drive which is a Samsung 850 evo. I'm not quite sure but after doing some research I now think that using Samsung's Hardware Encryption feature is the best way to do this. So I used this instruction which explains how to enable the hardware encryption. I already went through it and enabled it but the instruction also says:

What’s important to note here is that the drive alone does not encrypt the data – it needs to be done along with a software level encryption tool like BitLocker or TrueCrypt.

That's where I'm unsure. Unfortunately documentation for this feature is rare on the internet but what I found tells me that this hardware encryption feature maybe only works with Bitlocker. Even the Samsung Magician calls it "Encrypted Drive from Bitlocker". But I still have to ask:

Can Veracrypt utilize Samsung's hardware encryption or is it only reserved for Bitlocker?

Probably this is OPAL drive encryption. At present moment VeraCrypt does not control OPAL drives.

Thanks for your reply. At least I have this activated now in case VeraCrypt can use it in future. That guide was a little bit misleading. Unfortunately the Samsung Magician Software hides it behind a little question mark that this feature is called "Encrypted Drive by Bitlocker" as mentioned in my original post and I only read that when I already reinstalled my system. I still had the hope that it still can be utilized by Veracrypt as the guide I used implied but that doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately.
