    Hello,
I do have experience with Truecrypt and Diskcryptor, but since Diskcryptor doesn't seem to be updated anymore, for protecting mom's laptop (windows 10 Home), I went ahead with Veracrypt. I selected encryption the Windows partiction (it didnt even let me encrypt the full drive), the test went fine. The encryption went ahead (standard algorithms, wipe mode selected - 1 time), but slowed down significantly when it reached around 90%.. Eventually it reached 98.8% or so and it had frozen. Blue screen with a critical error apeared and a restart after that a message ~ "select proper boot device" message, I thought all data is lost, but after the third restart, it asked for the Veracrypt pssword and the system loaded. Veracrypt prompted with a message that encription is not full, and if I want to proceed. I did proceed, it eventually reache 99.1% but had frozen again. Same procude as before (it always gets to the password stage at the third reboot), but Windows eventually stopped responding after login. Tried rebooting a few times., with no good effect. (EDIT: ocassionally during reboot a windows message appears that windows was not loaded succesfully, asking if I want to go to advanced options, or just reboot).

Now, I do have the Veracrypt Rescue Disc ZIP that I sent to myself from moms email, when it was still possible.

Should I just boot from the USB from the EFI and... do what?
Basically I think I should attempt to decrypt the whole partition, even though it's encrypted so far at only 99% and not 100% (wouldn't that be an issue?).
At this stage I am more nconcerned with getting the laptop to work and not losing data, however, if I was able to succesfully complete the encryption and the laptop started working again, it would be even better!
    TIA for any suggestions.

Ok, so I Inserted the USB stick with the rescue EFI, the computer didn't ask me for anything other than before (so as said, I had to type in the veracrypt password) but it then proceed to login to windows and it didnt freeeze or crash anymore in windows. The encryption finished sucesfully (the remaining 0.9%) and now it's working fine... not sure what hapened and how did the rescue disk help, if it didnt ask me for anything... but whats important is that it works!
