I just got a new computer with Windows 10. My old computer had Windows 7, and I have enjoyed full disk encryption on it for years using TrueCrypt 7.1a. I want to use full disk encryption on my new computer using VeraCrypt, but the option for FDE is greyed out (as is the option to create a hidden operating system).

Is there something with Windows 10 that does not allow FDE?

    Thank you.

Your Windows 7 was using MBR disk verses the newer UEFI mode. For UEFI, the Windows hidden partitions for booting purposes must not be encrypted. Even Microsoft's BitLocker does not encrypt the hidden boot partition. Hence, one of the reasons why the whole disk option is greyed out.

Thank you for your response. I am not technically savvy enough to understand the difference between MBR and UEFI, or to work around it (if that's even possible), so I see I will have to come up with an alternative.

      Thank you again.

Still is a mystery as to how install a hidden OS on this kind of configuration
