    Hello folks :-)

I read several topics about how to decrypt a Volume with VeraCrypt 1.17 (64bit) in a safe way but still is not clear for me ...so really please I need help :

in the attached image I show the voice that permits me to permanently decrypt my Volume so I think these is the right way , but I dot not understand the following :

    • Will I lose all my files ? So do I need to back up everything before permanently decrypt ?

    • Once I permanently decrypted my Volume, will be possible access to it without password and VeraCrypt software just with double click from Windows resources ? If not , what's the solution ?

You need to backup your data even if you do not use encryption since you never know when hardware failure, software issue or user mistake will cause loss of data.

It is possible during decryption that VeraCrypt encounters bad blocks on the drive which will prevent decrypting the drive. Therefore, you should backup your data before beginning decryption.

The in-place decryption will not cause loss of data unless bad data blocks exists or the decryption is interrupted. Once the decryption is finished, you will be able to access the drive without password.

I really appreciate your suggestion, clearly some issues must be kept in mind...

On the way, I have at this stage another question please help me :

in case I do not permanently decrypt my volume , that is an hard disk installed inside my assembled Pc, and I want to detach this hard disk , put it in an external box , and connect it via usb to my Pc,

starting from the VeraCrypt's menu (please see image attached) where exactly I have to click to find out the usb external crypted disk and reopen it with my usual password ? Or there is a link to official informations ?

You click the Select Device button.

The VeraCrypt application has a Help > User's Guide.

Or you can reference the documentation online.

    https://www.veracrypt.fr/en/Documentation.html
