    Hello everyone,

I have a 1tb external HD. I've discovered VeraCrypt last year. My 1tb was partitionned in 3 parts. So to gave it a try, I've mounted the 1rst of the 3 parts. So everytime I need to use that partition, I have to open veracrypt, mount it , put password and everything always go very well (thanks for this amazing software). After a year, I'm now tired of doing this (not tired of the software itself _ I will keep it _ I'm tired of having to open VC and put a password everytime I want to use the 1rst partition of my external HD because none of the files I have on it actually request a protection).

So my question: how to get my disk back as it was before I tried VC on it? I mean a 1tb HD with 3 partitions that will always be display if I plug them into a computer and that I can use without the need of VC.

    Thanks for your help

    OS: windows7 32 bitd

    Hi,

You can decrypt your first partition using VeraCrypt: dismount your partition from VeraCrypt, click on "Select Device" and choose it from the list and then go to menu "Volumes -> Permanently Decrypt": this will launch the decryption process and after that you partition can be used as before without any change to the disk or the other partitions.

This functionality is present in the latest version 1.13.

One point though: as with any operations that handles data in-place, the decryption must not be interupted in an unexpected way (like power loss or sudden Windows reboot) otherwise data can be lost. So, you have to ensure that the process can go on without unexpected events and if you need to pause the decryption always click on "Pause/Defer". Of course, as indicated by VeraCrypt warning, it is always good to have a backup of the data.
