I have encrypted a System drive successfully years ago. I don't remember the process. My question is: Can I encrypt a drive first before I install an OS? Or does the OS has to come in first before I encrypt the drive?

    Thanks

    Hello,

You need to install your OS + patches and then encrypt the OS.

Disconnect any external encrypted drives before installing the OS since Windows installation as been known for initializing disks/partitions that it does not recognize.

Thank you for your reply Enigma2.

I noticed after the system drive has been encrypted; the 32 bit version of VeraCrypt runs in the background. I notice this in the registry too:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I have a 64 bit OS. It would be ideal for the VeraCrypt 64 version to run on a 64 bit platform.

I was able to modify the registry key and have the 64 bit version to start.
