    Hi,

I'm using veracrypt on 2 devices where one device has regularly a corrupt boot. The only option to solve it is by using a veracrypt recovery usb-disk and restoring the binaries (option r). The device is hereafter able to boot for a while but after a while the recovery is needed again.During boot the presented error varies, such as: the selected boot device failed and with various BSOD. I think it might be linked to windows update and/or bios settings but I don't have clue which settings could be causing it and how to solve it.

    current config:

    • hp pavilion 15-cs3847nd
    • windows 10 (10.0.194042) but crashes also occured with previous versions
    • bios version f.06, 8-4-2020
    • smbios 3.2
    • veracrypt 1.24-update7

The system partition is AES encrypted and an additional AES encrypted drive is coupled during boot.

Does anyone has an idea what could cause this instability?

    thanx.

Have you had a look at the drive's S.M.A.R.T. values? Maybe the drive is failing. Furthermore, lookup the BSOD code to find a clue, why this happens. The repeately damaged boot and the BSOD may be related.

Both drives seem to be fine, see screenshots. I 'll wait for the next crash but I expect that it will be generic windows recovery screen or 'the selected boot device failed' . without any additonal info.

Also added hp hardware check tool results.

      Thanx

Today I got a new blue screen, see attached with windows update 20H2.

Anyone a clue why this happens that often (with updates)?

In regard to different websites on the net, there are several reasons for this BSOD code, alongside to damaged data cables and virus infection. You could give new data cables of the storage media a go and see if it helps. Would be the easiest task, I guess. It's not easy to debug without direct access to the computer.
