I want to automatically save backups to an encrypted file container located on a network disk during logout/shutdown, using Windows 10 Pro.
Therefore I want to combine VeraCrypt with the backup software PersonalBackup (https://personal-backup.rathlev-home.de/index-e.html)

It has the option to run an external software before and after the backup. I use these options to mount and dismount the encrypted file container. The setup works perfectly if I trigger the backup manually.

However, if the backup is triggered during the logout process, the backup software returns the error code 107. The developer of the backup software claims that this code is handed over from VeraCrypt.
Does anyone know what this ErrorCode implies? Are there any suggested solutions?

Otherwise, I will try out some workarounds.

    Hi Martin,

If you can't find another way to deal with error code 107, I have a suggestion for a workaround. Rather than using the Windows logoff or shutdown event to trigger the backup, flip it and use an "after backup" script to initiate the Windows logoff or shutdown, using the command "shutdown /l" or "shutdown /s". If there are multiple post-backup options you want to allow for, including just backing up without shutdown, you can use a "before backup" script to ask and record your choice when you begin the backup. It looks like you've already done the heavy lifting on your backup procedure, so this workaround should be fairly easy for you.

    Hi Gary,
    thanks for your response.
I have also thought about a workaround, and come to the solution that what you are suggesting is the most viable solution. The BackUpSoftware offers the option to create a desktop shortcut, which again has the option to define what sould happen after completion (in this case: shutdown). Therefore, the users will just have to click the desktop shortcut in order to shut down the machine (I will diasable the normal shutdown button for higher compliance).

I wasn't even aware that you could disable a user's start menu shutdown option until I saw your reply and googled the topic. You're very good at making lemonade out of error code lemons :)
