    Hi Everyone!

Two days ago I had to do a factory reset of my laptop because of some system issues.

Before doing so, I copied and past the file that I use to mount my Veracrypt volume on an external drive.

I am 100% certain that the copy past of this small 10Go file went smoothly.

After reinstalling windows, I installed Veracrypt again and tried to mount my volume.

Attached are what it says, in order.

After saying "okay" to everything, I do have access to my Veracrypt volume. The problem is that the most recent file is from August 2023 ... I can't find anything else that I saved on the volume after that date.

Please, help. I have tons of work documents for my scientific research that I stored there, willing to keep it safe. It's really depressing and sad to lose it all.

    Thank you guys.

It's possible, that you removed your external drive before the copying process finished. This could also be the reason for the corrupt file system. But it's also possible, that the external drive had some issues.

You could try to search the filesystem with data recovery tools. Maybe you're lucky.

Is the whole external drive in read-only state (can you copy any file to it, outside of the veracrypt conteiner of course)? If you can't it may have failed. The best you can do now is to run a data recovery program at the mounted volume. It may also have happened that the container file was not fully written if the drive gone into read-only mode when the copy was running.
No matter if you get your data back or not do backups in the future (any storage media will fail at some point).
If your drive really did become read-only I would guess its SSD or flash drive (not that it matters)
