    Hi !!
First of all, merci pour tout le boulot que vous faites sur ce soft ! Thanks a lot !

I have a question regarding the veracrypt rescue disc, used to rescue an encrypted system disc.
-Is it normal that it is only 1.75 MB ?
-When I open it / mount it, it's totally empty.

So, I tried several methods to "burn it" on a USB flash drive... And it's always failling... Impossible to boot.

Am I the only one to have these issues ?

I checked the iso with veracrypt and the soft said that it is OK....

    Thanks a lot... Merci bien

    Buddy

    Hi,

The Rescue Disk only stores the bootloader and the volume header in places outside the filesystem structure. There is nothing in the filesystem so that's why you see it is empty.

To create a bootable USB drive from the Rescue Disk, I have created a package containing free tools and a howto explaining the necessary steps to achieve this. More information available at https://veracrypt.codeplex.com/discussions/644091#post1457184. The package is available at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/veracrypt/files/Contributions/VeraCryptUsbRescueDisk.zip/download

Don't hesitate to share your experience using this package.

    Bonne soirée,

Can you please describe how did you crate bootable USB. It is not working for me in any way. I have a lot of expiriance of creating bootable USB but this is nightmare. For me in any tool i cannot boot VeraCrypt 1.16 in recovery mode and my data is locked!!!

    Please help me

First I mounted the encrypted hard drive on an other computer, and mounted this way: "System/Mount Without Pre-Boot Authentication...".
I then did get the VeraCrypt Rescue Disk file in My Documents.
Please be smarter than me and backup it on an other computer when you encrypt your drive !!!

Now I grabbed a 64 GB USB key to create a bootable rescue disk:

    1) Using EASEUS Partition Master I did wipe the whole USB key (otherwise it did throw errors).
Please note that I did use a 64 GB USB drive.
I did NOT select "Optimize for SSD".

    2) Format it as FAT using EASEUS Partition Master, it will automatically create a 4 GB partition.
The problem being that it makes 64 KB clusters, and it makes a warning when you boot the USB key (as it wants maximum 32 KB).
So I did just format it again using Windows Explorer, selecting the allocation unit size as default.

    3) In Grub4Dos GUI I did select just the 4 GB partition, not the whole disk (remember that it's 64 GB).

    4) I did put the .iso Rescue Disk file on the USB drive, but please careful to not call it veracrypt.iso.iso instead of veracrypt.iso
