    Hello,

my System drive and my HDD are encrypted with AES and both have the same password (even in the US keyboard layout). The HDD is a system favourite and the "Mount [...] when Windows starts" option is activated. I already tried the "diskpart automount" tip and it still doesnt work.

My OS is Windows 8.1. Can you help me please?

    Hi,

Till now, all users who reported similar issue solved their problem by executing the diskpart command.

Did you check if there is an issue with the drive letter specified in the system favorite? Did you try setting a different drive letter?
Are you able to mount the volume manually using the same drive letter?
Did you manually remove any drive letters from Windows?

Without further inputs I can't help as this works on test machines and for other users. There must be some external parameter that blocks the mounting (some security software can do this as well).

Tried it with 2 different letters

Did you try setting a different drive letter?

    Yes

Are you able to mount the volume manually using the same drive letter?

Yes, if i enter the PW after the booting it mounts the drive

Did you manually remove any drive letters from Windows?

    No

I uploaded a video on Youtube. The first part shows a normal boot, in the second part i use the automount command and change the letter of the drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL7Ps6jrcRw&feature=youtu.be

Have you verified that Windows has not already assigned a drive letter after you start the system? View the drive/partition in Disk Management.

If Windows has already assigned a drive letter to the volume, this will prevent the auto mount from working in System Favorites.

Here is how to remove the drive letter assignment from Windows 7 which should work for Windows 8.x versions.

    1) Do not manually mount the partition in VeraCrypt.
    2) In Windows, use the Disk Management (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management)
    3) Right click the raw partition (Windows will see this as a raw partition) and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths, and then Remove.

Reboot to determine if VeraCrypt is auto mounting the volume. If not, verify Windows did not reassign a drive letter at boot-up.

You were right, Windows assigned a letter to the partition. I removed it but it still doesnt automount. Windows did not assign a new letter after the reboot (https://imgur.com/KRN0iqP). I also tried the diskpart automount command again after I removed the letter but it still doesnt work.

This may be due to the Fast Startup setting is enabled on Windows 8.x versions.

Try disabling the Fast Startup per the instructions in the link below and cold boot (not reboot) your system. Verify that the Fast Startup setting is still disabled once your system boots.

    Hi,

I'm having a similar issue: I've recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and now can't get VeraCrypt to autostart at system boot.

I've folowed all the advice here as regards checking Windows assigned drive letters and disabling Fast Startup but to no avail.

I can see the registry entry that shoud start the program and have even tried creating a shortcut in the startup folder but VeraCrypt still doesn't start at system boot.

The application runs as Administrator by default and UAC is disabled on my system.

    Any other ideas please?

Are you using the latest VeraCrypt 1.17 version?

Sorry, I decided to EDIT my original response, since I found the reason why the FIRST "password prompt" is different from the SECOND "password prompt". I thought I was just being OCD, but there was a difference and I will leave my original response and just jump down below the HORIZONTAL LINE for the update.

    Everyone,
Just recovered my account so I could help you, since it seems "others" have not been able to and it is now one year later and I am having the exact same problem with Veracrypt NOT auto-mounting when the Flash Drive is inserted. I basically configured Veracrypt to auto mount my FAVORITES and it always fails, but if I manually mount then everything works perfect, which is a pain because it is the same password.

So guess what? I noticed that Veracrypt seems to be doing something with each "password prompt" and most of us probably keep entering the correct password the FIRST time, but then give up and cancel out. So I noticed this and Veracrypt seems to do something "different" after the FIRST prompt so what is my solution? :)

CANCEL the first prompt to enter your password, then on the SECOND prompt enter your password. BOOM!!! It works.

Anyway, I am running Veracrypt 1.21 on Windows 10 Pro and now I have AUTO MOUNT working when I insert my flash drive, which is cool but remember to CANCEL on the first password prompt and only adds a few seconds to the process. Happy camper here... :)

Well, it turns out that there is a difference in the "password prompt" that I was receiving. Basically Veracrypt is configured to prompt me for the password when I plug in my Flash Drive, but it would not take the password on the FIRST prompt. Turns out that if you DISABLE the option:

    Mount all device-hosted Veracrypt volumes

then you only get ONE prompt, because it seems Veracrypt was trying to mount my Flash Drive as a Device Hosted volume when it is FILE BASED. Furthermore, it was prompting when the machine booted even though my Flash Drive was not plugged in, but I assume it is because it was set up as a FAVORITE. Yesterday I was rebooting with the Flash Drive plugged in, so I did not notice this discrepancy until today and probably best to uncheck this option and only mess with it when you have something permanently attached. You will then probably have to deal with a potential "bug" where the prompt might be for a certain device versus another, but I won't explore that... :)
