I'm new to Veracrypt and have it successfully working on another Windows 10 installation, but I don't use hibernate on that box. On both systems (including the Thinkpad) I'm using full system encryption.
The issue manifests like this: if the laptop comes back from hibernate/suspend, the computer will soft freeze (movable mouse but no other activity) occasionally before the login screen displays (on an all-cyan background) but most often after Windows is loaded. This seems to persist through reboots which I found very odd.
It also seemed to degenerate, at first only locking every other boot, ultimately freezing every boot.
I discovered that it seems to be tied to the task bar. If I use WinKey+R or load up the Task Manager, I can safely exec programs that way without a freeze at all, but interacting with the Start Menu, Task Bar, or Dock, seemed to freeze the system 100% after a dozen boots or so. I was able to fully decrypt the drive this way (exec'ing Veracrypt via Task Manager) and then the issue was gone. I want to run Veracrypt though, so now I've disabled hibernate on my laptop and it's fine...except, of course, that I'm afraid for an unmount on suspend, worried it was part of the issue.
Things I tried to no avail:
I checked "Don't show wait message dialog when performing operations," suggested by many posts with similar (but not identical) issues; unfortunately this didn't do the trick.
I turned off all auto-dismount options, which makes me feel less safe and didn't sort the issue out.
On just a guess, I tried enabling password caching, but this also had no effect.
Disabled fast startup.
I'm not sure what information you all might need to debug this, but I'm happy to help.

After applying the change, reboot your computer for the changes to take effect on your PC.
You can click on the ticket link I provided in my post above to vote-up the request that VeraCrypt notify and disable the Windows Fast Startup feature to avoid the various issues it causes VeraCrypt.

Apologies, yes, I did disable fast start (It's still disabled I see, examining the option) and the behavior continued. If I can edit the top post to include that, I will.

Disabling hibernate has been an effective workaround but is a huge downer due to battery drain. I'm happy to provide more information if it helps? I just don't know what might be of use here.

Have you disabled Fast Start in Windows which is known to cause anomalies in VeraCrypt?

I get the sense maybe this is hopeless?
