I tried to installed veracrpt on my surface pro 5, Now I am stuck on the pretest , when I enter the password it tells me it iswrong , after alot of trys Ifigured out that a key is not working when entering the password on pretest. I tried an external usb keyboard but that ain't to be working at all
So the files are not encrypted yet and I can't login though, Idon't see an option to stop the pretest . I am really getting desperate right now I need to access my laptop.

On the VeraCrypt bootloader screen, press the ESC key instead of entering the password & PIM. This should abort the VeraCrypt bootloader and proceed to OS startup.

Normally you should created the rescue disk during the encryption
process or at least you have saved the zip file of the rescue disk. So,
just boot on the rescue disk and choose to restore the original system
loader and you can boot Windows again.

if you did save the rescue disk (which is against what is recommended),
then you will need to boot on a Linux Live CD in order to do
troubleshooting. Basically, after booting on Linux, you can access your
Windows system partition and get the Rescue Disk zip file from your
Windows profile "Documents" folder (this is possible since the system
was not encrypted). And from there, you can create a Rescue USB disk by
extracting the zip to its root and then boot on it to restore the
      original system loader.

An alternative approach using the Linux Live CD is to modify the EFI
system partition in order to remove the VeraCrypt bootloader and restore
the Windows bootloader. This requires some more steps than before so the
above approach is the easiest and let's wait first to see its outcome.

I have got the rescue disk on my USB drive, I am not able to use it. I switched the order in bootmenu already .
I can make a video of all of this if this sounds ridiculous ...

If you can not boot on the USB rescue disk, then there is a problem in
      the bios boot configuration.
Are you sure the EFI folder is at the root of the FAT32 USB disk? The
USB disk must be formatted as FAT32 to be visible from the BIOS
      otherwise it will not work.

Important thing is to be able to point the BIOS to boot on the USB key.
This depends on the model of your machine. A video may help others point
you to the step to configure USB booting.

First of all DON'T PANIC!! People who panic in these situations do something rash.

Secondly, yes, a video would actually be helpful. First, try and boot off your hard drive. When it comes time for entering your password hit ESC. I am interested to know what your computer is doing.

      Some questions for you:

      1. Is your system EFI?
      2. When you made your USB stick, did you unzip the rescue disk zip file onto the USB stick's root directory?
      3. Is the USB stick formatted with FAT or FAT32? Some USB sticks come preformatted as ExFAT which isn't good for EFI booting.
      4. Did you change your computer's boot order to include booting off of a USB drive?

I checked and the USB drive is NTFS . Gonna try now reformatting it
    Thanks

Okay now it worked to run from the USB drive
Which option do I choose now?
To start it normally, I mean it is not encrypted.

    I really don't get it
I choose boot veracrpt loader from rescue disk and it asks me for a password
No other option does make sense for me

I tried every option available it is either doing nothing or asking me for the password whch I don't have.

Remove VeraCrypt from boot menu. Then remove the USB stick and reboot the computer.

First I want to thank you guys for answering.

Hi Jeremy. Sorry I have been delayed getting back to you.

Before we proceed any further, can you verify if you happened to read this thread and did you happen to follow those directions?

The reason I ask is what you are experiencing is similar to what I would expect from someone who followed those instructions.

No I haven't read that thread

The basics of what you need to do is boot into a live Linux cd, use Linux tools (efibootmgr) to look at and possibly adjust the EFI boot sequence and then mount the EFI partition so we can remove the VeraCrypt bootloader. Basically, we're going to manually undo the changes that VeraCrypt made.

I am not in front of a Linux box right now, and won't be until tomorrow. I don't want to steer you wrong with the specific commands until I can sit down and basically do it with you as I write. A good tutorial to look at in the mean time is here. This will give you the ins and outs of EFI booting.

Once we have you back up and running, we can look at what went wrong and where to go from there. It could be you just have a computer that isn't EFI compliant.

Very sorry, I am in the Canadian navy and sometimes internet access is spotty when I am at sea. I am glad things got fixed. I am curious if efibootmgr in Linux was able to set the boot file back to Windows?
