    Hi,

    I am new to the forums, but have been using Veracrypt for years. I am experiencing extremely slow transfer speeds when attempting to copy or move files to an encrypted file container on an external storage device.

    Tech details:

    Machine
    * Apple M1 Max
    * Ventura 13.1
    * Memory: 32GB

    External storage device
    * QNAP TR004
    * Firmware 1.1.1
    * Configuration: RAID5
    * Drives: WD Red Pro 12TB, 7200 RPM, 256 MB Cache.
    * Connection: usb 3.1 (with an obvious bottleneck coming from the drives not being SSD)

    I have never needed to create an encrypted file container over 500MB, but I am currently creating 5-6 TB containers and am experiencing speeds of 16.46 MB/sec while copying over files via Chronosync (essentially Rsync, and the files are configured to maximize transfer speeds). Originally, I had attempted to use Finder, but the speeds were even lower. What's interesting to note is, the speeds were averaging around 40-50 MB/sec at the beginning of the transfer, but have since slowed down to a crawl.

    I tried some troubleshooting via directing the drive enclosure directly to my machine versus my hub, but the speeds stayed the same.

    Does this sound normal given the specs I shared?

    I'd appreciate any input any one could share.

    Thank you.

    I can't offer any help, but I'd like to note that I face similar issues on Windows with large (5 TB or more) mounts using multiple external USB HDDs.

      Thanks! It is helpful to know that other users are experiencing the same issue.
