Using a non VeraCrypt utility I manually changed the reported file date of a VeryCrypt file and now I can no longer access (mount) it. I can however access a backup that has one less file in the container just fine? My question is, does changing any of the timestamps of the file corrupt it so that it no longer is a valid file for VeraCrypt or is it another problem?

When you say "changed the reported date of a VeraCrypt file", do you mean you changed the date of the volume, or a file within the volume?
