I just upgraded VeraCrypt from 1.24-Hotfix1 to 1.25.9! And now Windows (10) does not start anymore.
The system partition is encrypted. When starting my pc and entering my password, I get the usual messages:
Success
Start *** *** len *** (where * are numbers)
...but the Windows loading dots do no appear.
What I did:
- Windows was fully updated (I did that before upgrading VeraCrypt).
o The system was successfully rebooted after Windows was updated and before VeraCrypt was upgraded;
- I'm still able to mount and browse the encrypted system partition when using VeraCrypt on a live USB Ubuntu (so no data corruption);
- The installation of VeraCrypt asked me if it was OK to turn off fast boot from Windows, which I said 'yes' to.
Things I want to try, but really not sure how to do them:
- Turn on fast boot in Windows again;
- Downgrade Veracrypt.
..which are hard to do because Windows does not start.
If somebody can help me in any way, thx :).

You've got the order wrong. When you're dealing with software that deals with your encrypted system, you want to upgrade that first. I don't know if you've looked at the changelog for Veracrypt, but there are probably 300 commits after 1.24 Hotfix 1 to current.
What you could try doing is booting off your Veracrypt rescue dvd/stick, and then if you can at least get into Windows, then you can upgrade Veracrypt.

Sorry for my late reply! I had fixed it already and forgot to look for reply's.
Thank you very much for your reply. I am aware that I was using an older version of Veracrypt. This is because I'm scared of errors, loss of data, or the thing that just happened to me.
You where right by the way: booting from Veracrypt rescue dvd/stick helped me out. After Windows started again I re-upgraded to the newest version of VeraCrypt which works now!
For people with the same problem, here are the details:
What eventually worked was using the rescue disk option "Restore loader configuration to system disk".
But before I used the option, I replaced the veracrypt EFI files on my disk with the files on the rescue disk. This somehow caused Window to start in restore mode, which made it possible to restore to the restorepoint created during the upgrade of VeraCrypt. This didn't help to start Windows normally, Windows restore would start every time. But maybe it was an important step towards recovery. I off course put the original files back on the disk after it didn't seem to work.
