    Hello,

wanted to give vDos 2016.06.01 a try under Windows 10 Pro 64bit (in a VirtualBox). No matter what dos program I start within vDos, Windows rises a message that it cannot run that app. I need to click it away plus any additional query what app should be used to open the program. What can I do to avoid this?

    Kind regards,
    Boris

When vDos is told to start “something” (a program or non-program), the 2016.06.01 version calls a Windows API function to determine what that something would be. If that something is a DOS program on a non-Windows file system, Windows will incorrectly report that isn’t a program. vDos will then let Windows handle that something. If it is a DOS program, that will of course raise the “Cannot start…” message by Windows.

This is fixed in the next vDos version. You could use the 2015.11.01 version that had its own mechanism to determine what to do with “something”. Or move the program to a “drive” local to the virtual Windows 10, VirtualBox manages all other drives as network drives.

All right and thanks for letting me know. The DOS drive is actually a Unix type ZFS data set exported via Samba and mounted as network share in VirtualBox. So my fix is simply to temporarily move the relevant folders to the local system drive of the virtual machine and wait for the next release.

    Boris
