#384 Which Audio Codec is Standard?

No

Hello again,

I use x264 to compress video. This is fine. But I am not sure which audio codec to choose. Standard Smart TVs can play which one. Which of these audio codecs is the most standard. Again, should I use MP3?

Because, for example, some Smart TVs cannot play the FFMpeg Codec.

Thank you.

I wrote incompletely. The correct sentence is as follows:
Because, for example, some Smart TVs cannot play the FFMpeg AAC Codec.

I'm not sure. Are you trying avi or mp4? It is weird that AAC is not supported in mp4. FFMpeg writes standard AAC format. Both MP3 and AAC should be perfect in mp4, but maybe avoid AAC in avi.

I tried AAC on MP4. One of the TVs played, the other couldn't. Which is the most standard for MP4?

don't know much about this. mp3 should play anywhere

Yes, I was using MP3 in AVI. Both were playing. I decided to use MP3 in MP4 as well. Enough for me.

          Thank you...

Maybe the audio is handled as PCM Wave-Extensive in decode so the aac output info is incorrect. I have seen this more recently with two project one with E-AC3 and another with DTS lossy audio.

I think it was info FFFFFFFFF or something that is the problem as seen in Mediinfo. This info as used by Wave-Extensive audio. Files were 48khz 16bit but still happens. PCM Wave-Extension I don't know that is added should never be maybe a bug.

We would need to see for your converted file MediaInfo output to know if you still have the converted file.

    Just checked..

    Format XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX
Codec ID FFFE / XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX (all X same as above)

An example of what we normaly would see with other videos

    Format AAC
Format / Info Advanced Audio Codec
    Format Profile LC
    Format Format 40

Actual this was nearer two years ago when I last encountered this looking at file dates. Excuse if this has been fixed since then. I have no file source to rest if it still an issue. If is then the above may help. BTW I don't know if using other tools will get around the problem. Why does audio become WAV-Extensive to start with is maybe the first way to diagnose the issue. Understand that then output could be normal audio files maybe !

I choose FFMpeg AAC. It works properly now. Maybe I made an incorrect adjustment before.
    Thanks...

It maybe more something to do with the audio source 16bit Float. And as it is Float it will then be seen only as WAV-Extensive (correct ? unknown not tested)

Though if you set it to 16 bit in Audio Conversion options in VD2 it should then output at half the bitrate and reduce the the file size by half. Is this a good or correct way to deal with WAV-Extensive audio in a video editor.

At least doing the above should able to convert Float WAV-Extensible audio files to correct AAC files without the above problems.

When I talk of half the bitrate and file size I mean this for lossless audio PCM WAVE. Transcode is like.

source audio compressed > Decodes to WAVE PCM (or RAW PCM) > Destination audio Compression
