Drakon released a Metroid II colour version.

This version runs on every real hardware and on all gameboy emulators except VBA-M.
The graphics are completely messed up with VBA-M.

Was broken in the original VBA 1.8 CVS tree by pokemonhacker, along with the CGB+SGB Border hack.

Issue was never root sourced by him as the rom is a hack, and his removal of several 'feature' hacks demonstrated what he thought of them.

Independet of pokemonhacker likes hacks or not (by the way fan translations are also hacks, and it would be a pity if games like mother 3 cannot be played in english due to such an attitude).

In general it is about simulating the real hardware and this bug is a discrapancy between the real hardware and the emulator.

was Metroid II DX functional on a CGB?

For sure. The game worked on the real Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance and the Gameboy Player (with GBC Flashcard). Tested also with BGB (real hardware mode), which supports the game as well.
Confirmed by several persons, also in the thread I posted.
