WRF converters report "No Data" when the -vars flag is used on Windows 8.1 and OSX 10.11.

To Reproduce:
1) wrfvdfcreate -vars U:V:W:QRAIN /glade/p/DASG/VAPOR/Bugs/1258/wrfoutd0220120924140000 1258.vdf
2) wrf2vdf -vars U:V:W:QRAIN 1258.vdf /glade/p/DASG/VAPOR/Bugs/1258/wrfoutd0220120924140000 1258.vdf
3) vaporgui 1258.vdf
4) Vapor will report "No data found in VDC"
