The UML doesn't load and gives the following problem 'VFS: Cannot open root device "ubd0" or 62:00' I was working with the 2.4.18um which didn't give any problems. But once I upgraded the kernel to 2.4.22 I cannot load the UML :-( I tried searching the mailing list for the problem But I could not solve it I execute linux through ./linux ubd0=cowfs,root_fs mode=tt eth0=daemon Any inputs in this will be very helpful. I don't know what mistake I'm making. When I changed to root=/dev/ubd/0 (in kernel 2.5-test5) I stopped getting this error message. I guess /dev has changed. Hi, I tried giving root=/dev/ubd/0 in the command line still I'm getting the same error message. :-( Or is there somewhere else I need to set this option. Sorry for this naive question. Hello Gowri, I'm really fairly ignorant, but I'll have another go mconsole (version 2) initialized on /u/gshankar/.uml/MlJjKZ/mconsole > Failed to lock 'cowfs', err = 13 > unable to open cowfs for validation UML Audio Relay (host dsp = /dev/sound/dsp, host What result do you get, if you wc cowfs touch cowfs ls -l cowfs If any of these fail, then those errors probably need to be resolved before uml can be happy. None of these command lines explicitly tests file locking, or writing, but those things need to work as well. Regards, James. Hello Cone The cowfs is the new COW file for the existing share root_fs. I think the COW file will be created by the driver if it doesn't exist. SO after I run the UML and which fails: > wc cowfs 0 0 0 cowfs ls -l -rw-r--r-- 1 gshankar people 0 Nov 6 09:31 cowfs AND for root_fs >wc root_fs 359513 1915884 104857600 root_fs gshankar@moretti:~/src/uml/manet/linux-2.4.22$ ls -l root_fs -rwxrwxrwx 1 gshankar people 104857600 Nov 6 09:23 root_fs* The file system works fine with the 2.4.18 kernel. But when I built for the 2.4.22 kernel I'm having this problems. I don't know What mistake I'm doing. Thanks Gowri --- "J.
