Hello, I am a student assistent and assigned to a problem which is troubling me now for month now and just can't find a solution. We tried to migrate existing outdoor Usarsim maps from U2k4 to UDK. In former versions the texture wm_texture.sky was used to utilize the GPS sensors. After upgrading to UDK this package vanished. Subconsequently there has to be found a substitution. The GPSSensor Unreal script revealed that no satellite is found, when using a BSP brush as skybox. The only brush found is the terrain brush (ActorHit). Thus the list of satellites will be empty after checking for actor hitting the line of sight. Besides no "WorldInfo" brushes are found which are used to determine if the satellite is seen or not. Is there a work around or some nice tutorial out there, we not have found yet? The tutorials and documentation for U2k4 helped me a lot rebuilding the maps so far. If you can provide me advise or some hints on this issue, I will be much obliged. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Daniel Garbe |

Dear All, Greetings for the day! I was trying to use the existing Sedan robot(present in UT2004) in USARSim, but I understand it is not in a workable condition as after adding the needed classes and files I am getting an build error in KRobot class. Please validate my understanding. 1) If the existing Sedan model cannot be used as it is, is it possible to amke it working by some modifications(Please note I am a newbie to robotics) 2) Do we have any car model which is in workable state and can be used directly to spawn the robot in the outdoor scenes. Any help will be highly appreciated as we have a demo planned up. Really Sorry for bothering you all. Thanking in advance |

Hi Reema, Please send your messages to one of the groups so that others may see these threads. The issue that you have is that the 2004 code that you are coping is a totally different system than the UDK code. I repeat, all of the robot code was rewritten for UDK. You can't simply take old files and expect them to work. This is true for the uc code and for the static meshes. The meshes should be regenerated by following one of the tutorials located at http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/usarsim/index.php?title=Tutorials. There is one for using 3ds max to create your model and one for using blender to create your model. The .uc code should be based on BasicAckermanRobot.uc class. All you need to do is to rename this class, add your static mesh and dimensions, and rebuild the system. If you don't know how to build a model in 3ds max or blender, there are lots of free models available on line that you could use and export for use in USARSim. _________________________________ Dr. Stephen Balakirsky Senior Research Scientist Georgia Tech Research Institute 250 14th St. NW Atlanta, GA 30332-0822 Email: Ste...@gt...<mailto:Ste...@gt...> Phone: (404) 407-8547 |

You need to place your new robot in the Development/Src/USARBot/classes directory and rebuild USARSim. You can then type the same text that you see on the screen and replace the robot name with your robot. |

Thanks Stephen for the reply. Sedan.uc file already exists in the UT2004 version of USARSim. I have not written the code. However I needed help in understanding how to use the same. Would go through the tutorial shared. Really appreciate your help. You should be able to base your code off of the AckermanSteeredVehicle.uc file. The only real changes would be the model file. The main reason that robots did make it from one version to the next was the lack of models and textures! Hi Stephen, P3AT worked fine for me now. I had uninstalled and reinstalled UDK and USARSim. (I guess I had goofed up before in some folder structure). Sincere thanks a ton for all your support, It really helped me a lot. As a further step I would like to add Sedan to an environment, but I understand that UDK does not support UT2004 robots. I understand I have to write a controller for the same.( I have Sedan.uc file with me - but not sure how to spawn that) Request you to please guide me on the same. Really appreciate your kind support. Thanks a ton once again! On Fri, Jan 31, 2014 at 7:53 PM, Reema Goenka <goe...@gm...>wrote: > Sure Stephen would try to do the same. I think that the problem is with your version of UDK not Iridium. This is why I would like you to try to build the USARSim for UDK from our source tree. If this works, then the issue is with the .zip file. If not, I am not sure where the problem is. I can try to build and send you a new zip, but this will not happen for a few days. You should get a robot. 5) If you press the "raw" button, you can see the actual text that was sent over the socket. You can change the ClassName to any platform that is found in the Development/Src/USARBot/classes directory (I get my code from git, so your path may be a little different). Good luck! Please find below the steps followed by me for UDK Server as well 1) Started UDK server through a bat file @echo off ..\Binaries\UDKLift server EmptyRoom?game=USARBot.P2AT?listen=true?bIsLanMatch=true?dedicated=true - This gives me an error of Failed to load class USARBot.P2AT 2) Started a UDK Client by executing the UDKLift.exe, went to command prompt and join the server - I am able to see the empty room map Now I am stuck about from where to add the robot into the environment. I have done the following steps to compile USARSim 1) Installed UDK - version UDKInstall-2012-02-BETA.exe 2) Downloaded USARSimFull_UDKV1.2.zip 3) Extracted the contents in the UDK Installed folder. 4) Executed make.bat which was done with Success. Hmmm... As I said before, I use the GIT version. I wonder if there is something wrong with the zip file? Can you try to download from git and see if that fixes your problem? If it does, I will try to get a new zip out. If it does not, please send the complete text of any errors from your USARSim window. Thanks. Why are you using port 777 in Iridium? You should try just "localhost" with the default port. If you need to use port 7777 then you will need to change the .bat file so that USARSim knows to use that port as well. Your bat file is not correct. The bat file starts the simulated world and has nothing to do with the robot that you are going to use. I suggest that you use one of the provided bat files located in the USARRunMaps directory. For example, you could use the file "ImprovedTestRoom.bat". You can then run Iridium from USARTools/IridiumUI/bin/Iridium.jar. Then do the following: 1) Press the "Connect" button 2) Use the ClassName dropdown to select a robot (try "USARBot.P3AT"). 3) Use the Location dropdown to select a location (try "HighBackRight"). 4) Press "send". You should get a robot. 5) If you press the "raw" button, you can see the actual text that was sent over the socket. You can change the ClassName to any platform that is found in the Development/Src/USARBot/classes directory (I get my code from git, so your path may be a little different). Good luck! Really appreciate that. I tried the same using UDK version as well, but was not able to connect through Iridium to the UDK Server started. My target vehicle is to add Sedan vehicle into some outdoor environment, but being a newbie was trying to add P2AT. Please note that if I start UDK server, I am not able to connect to it through Iridium. Your help is highly appreciated. Thanking you once again. Hello, Could you please explain how to control the AirRobot from matlab (namely I used the MATLAB USARSim Toolbox), by knowing the coordinates of the intial and end points, and arrival time to end point Since in UDK you can set in a DRIVE command only the following parameteres (Altitute, Linear, Lateral, Rotation). But I need just to say AirRobot move from point A to point B starting from time t0 and arive at time t5 let say. Thank you. |

There is the basic IridiumUI controller in the tools directory of USARSim, you can use MOAST, or you can use ROS. I would not recommend player. The code interface for all of the versions is identical. However, the underlying code is quite different. The USARSim code for using UT2004 is in the sourceforge cvs repository, the code for UT3 is in the svn repository, and the code for UDK is in the GIT repository. Only the GIT repository is currently under development. In addition, there is a project called USARSimRos that allow you to use ROS with USARSim. I would not recommend that you use the UT3 version of the code. UT3 had many issues that we were never able to fully get around. If you are using Linux for running USARSim, your only choice will be UT2004. There should be a Linux script on the disk to install it. However, USARSim just requires a socket connection, so if you run USARSim on a windows box, your controller can run on Linux. Subject: [Usarsim-developers] some questions about USARSim installating Hello, I'm a student of University of Maryland at College Park, we are now planing to start some simulation experiments using USARSim. But I am puzzled by these questions: Should I install UDK, UT3 and UT2004 ALL? Or any one of these three is sufficient for simulation ? In fact, I have installed UDK on windows, and ordered a CD of ut2004 from Amazon. I really want to know which of them should be necessary, which one needs to be buy. I also want to know IS THERE A LINUX VERSION OF UT2004 ? We probably need to install USARSim on Linux. Thanks a lot. --du |
