We are since many years using UST-10LX for sensing interaction with wall projections in large location based entertainment installations, and a few other use-cases. Since these installations are often long-running and are optimally running without fault for many hours every day, we see the need for having monitoring and health systems checking all parts of the setup, including the state of the sensors.
For this purpose I'm wondering about the connectivity of the sensors; I'm asking now before trying to find the best way forward, and I know the sensors response to ping for example, at least as long as no other computer is communicating with it (?). I've been trying to find information on how the sensors are supposed to react to multiple clients pinging or requesting information, but cannot find anything.
So the questions become the following:
Will sensors respond to ping from another computer on the network pings it, when it is already communicating with the main experience computer on the network?
Will a response to ping in that case let us make the assumption that the sensor is working fine?
Is it possible for another computer on the network to request status information from a sensor even though the sensor is already communicating with the main experience computer? E.g. through the "II" SCIP command?
Any other recommendations for a second client/computer to find out if a sensor is healthy and responding?

The UST-10LX supports only one TCP connection at a time. Therefore, when the sensor is already connected to the main experience computer, another computer cannot establish a separate TCP connection to the sensor or issue SCIP commands such as the "II" command through another TCP connection.
However, ICMP ping is independent of the TCP connection. The sensor can still respond to ping requests from other computers on the network while an existing TCP connection is active.
Regarding monitoring, a successful ping confirms that the sensor is reachable on the network and is responding to ICMP requests. However, it should not by itself be considered a complete health check of the sensor, since it does not verify that the sensor is correctly performing measurement functions normally.
For a second monitoring computer, we therefore recommend using ping as a basic network/reachability check only. If more detailed sensor-status information is required, it would need to be obtained through the existing TCP/SCIP connection, since the sensor does not support a second simultaneous TCP client.
