This does not have anything to do with memory leaks (I mean: there are some leaks in the current version of the game, but they should not cause crashes).
Please provide more information (What Windows version do you have? What exactly have you done to start the .exe? What other programs were you running? What makes you think it "crashed"? Has any log been written in the game directory? Have you been asked whether to create a crash dump?)

Have you played Fame before? If so, which version it was, and which version crashed? What was the last thing printed in the console window?

I have not played Fame before (I have the latest version).

Detecting memory leaks: disabled"
was the only thing printed in the console window.

I have same issue, double click on exe, the cmd prompt comes up.
Shows two lines, some copyright line and Detecting memory leaks: disabled.
Then it closes, no process running, nothing else happens.
Did this numerous times.
Did the same thing on .9.4 and .9.5, I'm running windows XP SP2 32bit..... hmmmm
I downloaded .7.6, ran it, it worked.
Then downloaded .9.2 and .9.3, ran them, it worked.
Then i tried again, the .9.4 and .9.5, and they both worked.(by worked i mean they launched into the menu)
Baffling.

OK, I have finally reproduced it. It seems that versions 0.9.5 and 0.9.4 cannot create configuration files if they didn't exist before. I'll fix it soon, thank you both! Please provide your names or nicknames so I can put them on credits list :-).

Upon starting the .exe, I immediately get the message
"Detecting memory leaks: disabled"
and then it crashes.
