Crazy stats

I've been enjoying playing Fame but suddenly had my stats go haywire. I purchased an amulet of strength and shortly after that found Apuval's shield. When I equipped both the amulet and shield and then checked my stats with the helm icon, my stats decreased (strength and vitality) with every click of the icon until they reached one and my energy skyrocketed. My character has been ruined. In fact now that I think of it, I had an appearance amulet and my appearance stat was down to one when I replaced it with the strength amulet. It seems that any items giving bonuses to existing stats reduce those stats to one when checking the stats with the helm icon.

Thank you, I'll check what's going on with amulets.

Upon further experimentation, what I discovered is that any item giving a bonus to any base stat will decrease the base stat by the bonus value each time the helm icon is clicked to check stat values. This happens with each check (click of the helm icon) until the base stat reaches 1. If you do not click the helm icon, the bonus values work properly.

Unrelated to the above, the game has crashed on me several times with an error message stating that it did not have access to a virtual memory address or there was an invalid array subscript. This happens sometimes when loading dungeon levels or when reading scrolls.

What a nasty bug, I wonder how it could go undetected through the tests. The fix will be included in 0.9.3.

      Thank you.

If you still have a saved game where a crash can be reproduced easily, please send it to me, this would make it much easier to hunt the bug down!

Attached is an example of a game crash. If you read the scroll "yFtMaWI aJ" in level 2 of the dungeon, there is no problem and it's a reveal map scroll. If you descend to level 3 and then try to read the scroll, the game crashes.

Actually it crashed on any level, also on 2, but that doesn't matter. I've fixed it. And your saved game helped me to discover another bug. Thanks a lot! Could you tell me your name or nickname so I can mention you in the appropriate section of the docs?

Thanks for asking to mention me in the docs. :) My name is Michael or you can use the nickname Honoris.

Attached is another crash. If you try to enter the dungeon, the game crashes. I've already been in dungeon before without a problem.

Here is another crash. If you try to go down (south) in this room of the large dungeon, the game crashes.

Also, why does the traveling family attack me when they are being attacked by a group of monsters? I just to want to save the family from destruction but they relentlessly attack me. Life of a Hero is rough. :P

Another issue I encountered is with the skills list. If you load the attached save game and go to page 2 of the skills list, the skills are not in the proper place when you click on them. For instance, clicking on smithing brings up alchemy, etc. Speaking of alchemy, is it implemented yet? When I've tried to use it, it crashes the game. What skills are currently usable? Thanks.

Fixed them all! You are a great tester, with the saved games you had provided I've had zero problems with reproducing each issue. Thank you again!

Yes, alchemy is implemented, but there was a stupid bug in GUI, causing the crash and rendering the skill unusable. All other skills that can be learned should also be usable.

Excellent news that you are squashing all the bugs! So when can we expect to see the next awesome release with all the fixes? Very much looking forward to it. :)

It's scheduled for May 12th and if nothing extraordinary happens, it will be published on that day. The fact that someone is waiting for the release makes me committed to keep the deadline ;-).

Greetings, I'm enjoying this simple but fine game. I like Rogue-Likes especially those which are near to ADOM. However I have a question, is it possible to translate the game in other languages by modding? I could make a german translation for it i.e. I can send you the translation text afterwards, so you can include it in your next release.
