Website migration

Dear friends,

We have just moved UltraDefrag website to https://ultradefrag.net/. The main reason is performance improvement - now the site works approximately 10 times faster.

Have fun!

Goodbye, Farewell or Amen?

Hello everyone,

So, nine months passed since the last release and we're still not making any significant progress towards the next milestone. Well, it's never easy to keep things going when people you love die and you have to deal with depression every single day, for years. We're trying our best to overcome that, but some things seem to be too hard to survive.

Nevertheless, hope dies last and we expect time and a bit of money still could help us to get out of hell. Overall we need about $35K to move away to a place where nothing will remind us about horrible things we've passed through. As we have no chance to gather funds locally, we decided to set donations up here. In the last 9 months we've managed to collect over $4000 which we've spent for food and medicines. God bless all the people who took part in! ... read more

UltraDefrag 7.0.1 has been released

This release features improved crash handling as well as upgrade to wxWidgets 3.1.0 library, which fixes a lot of bugs. Additionally, thanks to Sherzod Mamatkulov, Uzbek (Latin) translation is now available for UltraDefrag.

We have a lot of good ideas for the next release, but no time for their implementation. You can help the project to move on by a small donation. There's no need to donate $100 or more, even a small donation of $1/$2 might help.

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 has been finally released

Dear friends,

We are proud to present you the final UltraDefrag v7 release. Our tests show it works reliably, so we have no reason to defer it any longer. We'd like to thank all the fans for being with us on the way to the final release. Together we made it and now it's time to think about new features. Some of them should definitely appear in the upcoming 7.1.0 release.

Besides, SourceForge Project of the Month poll is still open. If you believe we're making good progress don't hesitate to vote for us there. We still do believe we're making our world a little bit better together, as we're spreading freedom via free software.... read more

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 RC1 has been released

Dear friends,

We are proud to present you the first candidate for the final UltraDefrag v7 release. In the latest beta we have fixed 99% of application crashes. We'll do our best to improve reliability even further, but taking into account the fact that the remaining crashes are probably caused by hardware failures and virus infections (rather than UltraDefrag bugs), we consider RC1 to be safe for daily use. If you'll find, however, that it still fails for you, don't hesitate to drop us a note. And finally, if you believe we're making good progress, vote for us at SourceForge Project of the Month poll.... read more

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 beta 6 has been released

This release fixes a few major bugs affecting thread safety. wxWidgets 2.8.12 we used before turned to have unreliable ways to transfer information from one working thread to another. The latest stable 3.0.2 release, however, provides better mechanisms for inter-thread communication. In beta 6 we have adjusted our code to use them properly.

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 beta 5 has been released

Dear friends,

We have finally upgraded wxWidgets to the latest stable 3.0.2 release. It fixes a lot of bugs and provides better debugging facilities which helped us to improve our own code as well. Only drawback is that it uses different language identifiers, so you have to select your language once again.

Enjoy!

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 beta4 has been released

For this release we used much safer compilation options: 32 bit binaries are compiled by GCC 4.7.1 which is known to be pretty stable, 64 bit binaries - by Windows 7 SDK with all optimizations disabled, as recommended by Microsoft.

UltraDefrag 6.1.1 and 7.0.0 beta3 have been released

Dear friends,

We are proud to present you a couple of new releases. The first one is a minor maintenance release. It fixes a bug preventing the program to check for available updates reliably. The latter beta release features brand new testing facilities. Whenever you'll encounter a bug the program will send us a bit of debugging information automatically. As we'll gather enough information we'll do our best to investigate all cases and make another beta release afterwards.... read more

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 seems to be ready for the final tests

Hello friends,

Since the latest updates we have no more bug reports. Due to this reason we'll mark the latest beta release as stable, at least for the next 48 hours. Give it a try and if the program will crash (on a virus-free operating system) send us a bug report.

If we'll receive enough feedback upon the subject we'll consider to mark as the latest stable release UltraDefrag 6.0.4 back again.

UltraDefrag updates will be available soon

Hello friends,

We'd like to let you know that we're going to make a couple of UltraDefrag updates for you. A lot of translations have been changed since the last release, so we plan to make 6.0.3 and 7.0.0 beta2 releases as soon as possible to include all the updated stuff.

Also we have some new bug reports. Unfortunately they are about a memory corruption which makes 'em extremely hard to fix. We'll need a lot of time and effort to investigate those cases and find what's wrong there.... read more

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 beta1 has been released

Hello friends,

  • This release gets rid of our home-brew GUI framework, which is replaced by wxWidgets.
This allows us to focus on the defragmentation engine and implement some long requested features.
The only drawback is that we have to retire support for Windows 2000® and below.
  • The translation is now moved from our home-brew one to GNU gettext, which is shipping with wxWidgets.
The translations are hosted online at Transifex and shipping with UltraDefrag for offline translation using PoEdit.
All translators are encouraged to read the Translation section of the handbook for further information.
  • This release doesn't offer any new features, it is meant for testing the migration of the entire GUI code.
  • Please give it a whirl and report back any problems you encounter.
  • The executables are not yet optimized for size, which will be taken care of before the final release.... read more

UltraDefrag 7.0.0 moves to new GUI framework and translation platform

The next major release of UltraDefrag, v7.0.0, will migrate from our home-brew GUI framework to wxWidgets.

This allows us to migrate the translation to use GNU gettext, which is implemented in wxWidgets.

We need to verify the information for the two languages, Kapampangan and Wáray-Wáray, to get them added to transifex, which offers the free online translation service.... read more
