Hmmm.  That is not a good sign.  Does ubertooth-lap give you any errors?
How do the LEDs behave when you run ubertooth-lap?  Try ubertooth-dump
piped into xxd and check to make sure you aren't getting all zeros or
all ones (0x01) forever.

You may be right that the issues are not related, but I'm concerned that
you never get packets.  At the very least, you should get a false
positive from ubertooth-lap every few seconds.
