new release !! as in LDOW2009 demo!!

UP2P was presented as a demo at the Linked Data On the Web workshop in Madrid, as part of the WWW conference.
The version of UP2P used for the demo, a big step in development, is now available for download on our download page!

This version supports linking resources, and features a felxible tuple-space based architecture, which serves as basis for our continuing work in extending the UP2P concept.

New release ! (beta)

After several months of fixing bugs in the alpha release we now make the final (hopefully) release of UP2P version 2. It's fairly well tested and can be considered beta.
The main fixes in this version:
- a treacherous bug that prevented downloads when the logs were off (thus disappearing when we switched on the logs to debug!)
- direct uploads with the "upload" bar at the top of the create page for any community now works, and the files (including attachments) will be stored in the right directory. Attachments should be referenced by URLs of the form file:example.jpg and placed in the same directory where the uploaded XML file is.
- a number of issues with the JTella adapter have been fixed. One was the length of acceptable query messages, which is now 4kb. This will avoid many random disconnections.
- A recurrent problem is with the IP address setting which sometimes was set to the loopback address 127.0.0.1 or even to the MAC address under linux... a workaround is now that the local IP address can be "manually" set in the initialization parameters of the web application (in config file web.xml; see example in that file).... read more

We have entirely refactored U-P2P to make it more robust and flexible. This is just a step towards a future version based on a tuple-space core architecture.
The downloadable versionis howver fully functional and we encourage users to try it out... maybe you will like it and want to contribute to our research!!

U-P2P Beta 4 Released

The new beta version 4 of U-P2P fixes major problems in usage and operation of Beta 3. Additionally, it provides a new NetworkAdapter making use of Gnutella P2P technology

Release Notes:

* U-P2P now requires Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.5 Standard Edition. The previous version required a lesser version but this has changed due to the use of Tomcat 5 code in U-P2P itself. U-P2P may still run in JDK 1.4 if an older (or patched) version of Tomcat is used.
* A Gnutella network adapter is now available. This is now the recommended method for using U-P2P
* Support for community bridging is present, but unsupported.

U-P2P 1.0 B3 Released

After a long re-write and the addition of many new features, U-P2P B3 is now available! U-P2P is a peer-to-peer framework for creating and sharing XML-based resources across different P2P networks. It supports pluggable Network Adapters, an easy to use web interface and requires very little knowledge of XML languages to create your own peer-to-peer network. Creating a new Napster is as easy as writing a web page!

0.2 Release

U-P2P 0.2 has been released and includes Tomcat 3.2.4 and Magenta. This initial release uses a centralized database to coordinate between peers and does not require access to an existing peer-to-peer network. A re-write of the code from scratch is currently underway, so stay tuned for more info. Note the preliminary work posted here is being updated with more features.
