[twmode-users-en] aur/emacs-twittering-mode-git v3.0.0.35.g97197cd-1 bug

When run for the first time curl error 77 gets returned when twmode tries getting an authorization token from twitter.  Since I am using archlinux I may as well also state that the aur/emacs-twittering-mode package which is not the git version won't even finish building on my system.  I'm using current version of emacs and this is on an x86-64 system if that helps.
This situation brings two questions to mind.
(1) is the latest update to curl package defective and responsible?
(2) how can I test curl separate from twmode to find out if curl is responsible?
