I'm reposting here in case someone's not on the tux4kids-discuss list. I can't say that I'm finished patching yet, but I'm at a point where I'm testing and looking for any bugs to fix. I have tuxmath building with SDL2. I fixed several issues where the program crashes when one tries to exit it. I also fixed some memory issues. I have SDL2_ttf (SDL_ttf) support working (as an alternative to Cairo). Added ability to use nanosvg in place of rsvg if desired. I made some modifications for internationalization. I'm using unistring library instead of the old Unicode line-breaking code borrowed from gettext that was added to t4k_common. t4k_common build works with newer or older versions of libpng. Would anyone like to help test what I've modified so far? My patches aren't in the official tuxmath git repos, so let me know if you want to test and I'll get you a copy of the patches. |

Should the dfollowing string be updated now? src/menu.c:217 TuxMath version %s is free and open-source! You can help make it better. Suggestions, artwork, and code are all welcome! Discuss TuxMath at tux...@li... I recommend using an sprintf placeholder for the name of the mailing list, so this string won't need retranslation if the list should change again in the future. |

I think github is not long for this world. A couple years ago, I would have thought sf.net to be in more trouble, but times have changed. There was a buyout of sf.org that is helping. Meanwhile, there is serious management turnover and self-destruction at github. Don't go there. I think sf.org is fine, and CVS too. There are alternatives to github in case you really want to leave sf.org behind. |

Moving this over to tux4kids-discuss list. We now the Tux4Kids github site up and running and have cloned most of the repositories over to it. We have now started adding more team members. If you are interested in being a team member or stepping up to be a maintainer for any of programs, let us know. Once we have the maintainers in place we should be better able to handle Pull Requests and new issue reports. We have a few of the students who applied to work with Tux4Kids for Google Summer of Code express interest in working on their proposed projects outside of GSoC. We have asked them to join the tux4kids-discuss mailing list and to ask questions here if they needed any help. Feel free to look at their code and give them feedback. Hopefully some of them will post some write-ups here on their progress. When replying to this post, please just reply to the tux4kids-discuss mailing list. Trying to get everyone to move this conversaion over to it. -Scott On Sat, Apr 30, 2016 at 2:31 AM, Holger Levsen <ho...@la...> wrote: > On Sat, Apr 30, 2016 at 11:19:12AM +0200, Bastien Guerry wrote: > > Also make sure he reads tux4kids-discuss@. > > can we shift this thread over there, maybe? do *we* all read that list? > > someone please start a new thread there ;) > > |

Starting from your translation, create the .mo object, this can be done in command line with msgfmt or if you use poedit it has an option to generate the machine readable file, other editors may have their own options to do so. Then locate the official installed tuxmath.mo file corresponding to your language, in Debian, for German it is under /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/tuxmath.mo make a backup of it, then replace with the file you just generated and test tuxmath with your translations. > > 2. What is the exact file you are translating? downloaded from where? It will really help if you tell this, depending on the exact file you are translating and the exact strings that are not contained in the translation file it can be: strings no more there- if the file you are translating is too new and there have been string changes. strings recently added- if you are translating an "old"(stable version?) file. strings recently added but still not merged into the translation files/not even marked for translation. Please, tell us what strings and what file :) Hope this helps Pere > Thanks! > > > Mit freundlichen Grüßen, > > Henrik Heinsch > > Westerwaldstrasse 12 > 35641 Schöffengrund - Schwalbach > > Tel: +496445923096 > Mob: +4916090551061 > Fax: +496445612997 > > Mailto: hen...@on... > > Am 18.04.2016 um 12:39 schrieb Holger Levsen: > > > > Hi Henrik, > > > > On Sun, Apr 17, 2016 at 11:56:33PM +0200, Henrik Heinsch wrote: > > > > > > --> Herewith I offer support in translating the textes to German, > > > since > > > I'm a native speaker of this language. > > cool! > > > > > > > > Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this, I saw the link to > > > gettext, > > > but I doubt whether this is the right way. > > git clone git://git.debian.org/git/tux4kids/tuxmath.git > > cd tuxmath > > cd po > > $editor de.po > > git commit -a -m "update of German translation" > > git format-patch -1 > > > > mail the generated file to this list. > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------- > ----------- > Mobile security can be enabling, not merely restricting. There are 2 possible reasons for his: 1. The strings haven't been marked for translation yet, so they can't be translated. 2. Hi to all, I found some time to close gaps in the German translation, but now it's time for me to check if I'm turning the right screw in the right direction: 1. How can I check with my official installed Tux Math if the translations are well done? 2. I found some english strings in Tux Math which are not contained in the translation file! Thought I'd post a status report on the modifications I'm working on. I'm making slow but steady progress on updating tuxmath to work with SDL 2.x. I now have both t4k_common and tuxmath building successfully with SDL 2 libraries. There are some differences between how SDL 2 handles things and how SDL 1.2.x does it. So, I'm going through the differences one at a time and trying to make the SDL 2 version work as closely to the SDL 1.2.x functionality as I can. I also noticed an issue when the close button to close the window is hit to exit certain screens. Depending on what screen this is done from, this can cause a crash in the application. Will see if I can make the exit functionality more consistent and avoid free'ing memory before rendering is complete. When I finally get some of these issues cleaned up, will take a look at tuxtype and see if I can get it work more like tuxmath (make better use of t4k_common calls). Should be able to add SDL 2.x support for tuxtype. Sincerely, Laura |

Hi Guys I have cloned/moved most of the repos that contains new projects. Repos which are still missing 1. Tuxracing 2. Tux4eng 3. Tux4words: I have already dropped an email to Natalia so that she can transfer ownership to us. I have also roped in Nalin (2013 GSOC student) as a backup maintainer for us. @Pere : It would be great if you can email me code directly so that I can create a new repo for them. ᐧ On Fri, Apr 29, 2016 at 11:10 PM, Bill Kendrick <nb...@so...> wrote: > > Adding tuxpaint-devel list to the Cc's. > > > On Thu, Apr 28, 2016 at 09:37:14AM +0200, Bastien Guerry wrote: > > Hi, > > > > Holger Levsen <ho...@la...> writes: > > > > > why: because it focusses on tuxmath only, but we should solve this for > > > the bigger tux4kids project. > > > > Indeed, this was implicit in my previous email but I wasn't clear > > enough and I was not aware of other issues I just discovered. > > > > > I very very much applaud and thank Bastien for this initiative but I > > > *cannot* agree on it. Deepak maintains Tuxmath only. @Deepak, is it so? > And, (long term) we need to come up with some rules / practices to > define what tux4kids is. After exploring a bit more, here is how I see it: - "Tux4kids" is just an ombrella for educational free softwares that use the tux- prefix. - Among those softwares, there are two categories: those who are well established and usable: Tuxmath, Tuxpaint, Tuxtype; others are more or less stable, maintained, etc.: tuxhistory (?), Tux4ME, Tuxblocks. I suggest http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org should simply have four "buttons" (or beautiful pictures of games): 1. one to redirect to tuxpaint.org; 2. one to redirect to the tuxmath project webpage; 3. one to redirect to the tuxtype project webpage; 4. one to list other games (the Tux4Kids "lab"?). At the bottom, a link to the tux4kids-discuss mailing list. >From here: - Tuxpaint seems to be developed rather autonomously, so I won't suggest anything, the button would just lead to tuxpaint.org - http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxmath/index.php can be updated, adding Deepak as the maintainer, listing tuxmath-devel@ as the main communication point and the github tuxmath repository as the central place for contributing with code and bug reports. - http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxtype/index.php can be cleaned up a bit, advertizing the fact that the project is looking for a maintainer--I assume it is. - A new page for other tux- softwares would just list them, maybe with the name of a maintainer if there is one, deferring communication to the github repositories. > And yes, probably we should have one mailing list (only). But this list > then *must not* have "tuxmath" in it's name…! Would tux4kids-discuss@ be okay? > Again: Bastien, thanks a lot for driving this! Much appreciated. I'm > looking forward for a modified plan! ;-) Here is one: 1. Deepak agrees to be maintainer for Tuxmath *only*. 2. We all agree that there is no need for a Tux4Kids maintainer. 3. We all agree on using the tux4kids-discuss@ mailing list as the central place for discussing among developers, contributors and users from all Tuxy- projects. 4. Holger keeps the Tuxmath alioth repository in sync with the Tuxmath Github's repository, and we all agree this Github repository is the central place for Tuxmath development. 4. If Deepak maintains other repositories on Github that are also on alioth (like tuxtype?), and if those repositories needs a sync on alioth, Holger sets up a sync--otherwise those repositories lives on Github and are advertized as such on the tux4kids website. 5. I update the various webpage to reflect this structure. If that's OK, from there we can move forward: - Laura sends her tuxmath patches as PR on Github. - We clean-up "abandonware" on the Github repositories. - ... Sorry for being so bulleted-list oriented, it helps me think! Thanks again for your feedback, -- Bastien |

Hi, no, this is a *bad* plan, sorry. why: because it focusses on tuxmath only, but we should solve this for the bigger tux4kids project. that said… please read Bastiens list again: On Wed, Apr 27, 2016 at 10:51:41AM +0200, Bastien Guerry wrote: > i'm at lost (again) about what the current situation is and I > would like to help clarify it so that we can all move forward. > > Let me know if I'm right about this: > > 1. I very very much applaud and thank Bastien for this initiative but I *cannot* agree on it. Please include tuxtype and tuxpaint in it, and quite very probably *more* tux4kids projects. And, (long term) we need to come up with some rules / practices to define what tux4kids is. And yes, probably we should have one mailing list (only). But this list then *must not* have "tuxmath" in it's name…! Again: Bastien, thanks a lot for driving this! Much appreciated. I'm looking forward for a modified plan! ;-) -- cheers, Holger |
