Can you please provide more information (e.g. VFS or local filesystem, any symlinks or hidden files)? And if possible, provide a testing directory structure where the issue is visible? Or it's just a display inconsistency between the item in panel and the status line?

The information in the status line seems to be correct according to "du -sb". I see the behavoiur both on ext3 and reiser4 (local). Sorry, but I could not make out a specific trigger. Small directories (a few KB) seem to be alright.
This is with tuxcmd-0.6.50-bin-i386.tar.bz2 on Mandriva Cooker.
