The way we do it is run everything off a server. That way, you just
have to carry around one floppy with you. Just put up an anonymous
ftp server with all the packages you want. Check out the docs on the
trinux site on how to load new packages, and where it looks for them
on the server. It's all there and it's pretty straightforward. This
is REALLY slick if you can make it work in your environment.
The other alternative is, of course, to build a CD. I have no
experience at that, so I'm afraid I'm no help to you there. :(

Well, there are lots of resources on compiling a kernel from scratch.
I think Matt has the config file that he uses for the kernel on the
site somewhere. You could take that config file and use it as a
starting place. Here's some info to get you started compiling
kernels:

Particularly sections 2 through 5. Section 10 talks about modules,
that might be worth looking at too.
I would avoid compiling the driver into the kernel, if possible,
though. Using a module is much more flexible.
