I'm guessing it is the attempts to mount /dev/fd0 (checking for the
presence of a boot or config floppy) which works fine if a drive exists
but there is no floppy disk present. If there is no drive then it takes a
long time to time out.
I should be able to modify the the /linuxrc to check for a floppy drive in
/proc/devices and ignore the checks if one isn't there.
I should be able to duplicate the problem on my laptop.
