There can be a big problem.
One part of Debian is the packet manager - Slackware has nearly no  
packet management, managing packages is the job of the provider (Matthew  
or you or someone else).

And another problem: Debian is antique. Look onto the Slackware sides:  
new packages, actual packages.

Look at zenwalk for a nice small distribution based on Slackware.
