http://sourceforge.net/project/stats/?group_id=3301&ugn=trinux I was shocked as hell today to see the download/web statistics on sourceforge. Can this really be true? Daily web hits 1600 and 5000? Must be an error. Downloads breaking 100? Since I (and probably most everybody else) basically considered the project dead, I figured it would be much much lower. Maybe the Internet has grown since '98 when I started this out. Maybe Knoppix and all the Knoppix-knockoffs are getting 10,000 downloads a day and 100,000 web hits but this makes me think their still might be interested in a stripped-down, no frill security distro, and just maybe, the Trinux brand is worth preserving... Yes, like everyone else in the security industry, I've become horribly corporate over the past five-six years. But enough late 90's nostalgia, I've been thinking about doing a stripped down (of course) version of the Ubuntu Hoary LiveCD that contains all the old trinux tools and more. Sure there are probably a half-dozen or more Knoppix-derivatives, but who cares, I've got a few PII's that I want to be able to run Ubuntu LiveCD on without X. Current list of requirements (probably in order) - No more than 250MB ISO Size (probably smaller) - Fast(er), non-interactive bootup - No X (of course) - Easily support PII-class machines with only 64MB - Floppy configuration variables - Serial console Thoughts, flames, eery silence, all welcome... And if you haven't every used, Ubuntu check it out... In it for the fun... - mdf -- | Matthew Franz md...@io... | | http://www.io.com/~mdfranz | |
