I have DL'd the latest iso image of 5sept02, but before using it I went in and made a few changes to remove dhcp and use a static connection. In directory: trinux/tux/config 1. In file eth0 I deleted dhcp and added ip and netmask info. 2. Created 2 additional files "gateway" and "dns" and inserted appropriate info in each. On booting the cdrom, everything seemed to have loaded up OK except networking. My rtl8139 based cardbus card appears to be connected and recognized, but no eth0 is generated (ifconfig eth0 shows nothing). Is there a way to manually bring it up? ("ifconfig etho ... up") Some questions: Have I setup the files in trinux/tux/config correctly to use a static connection? Are the realtek cardbus cards supported? Other than using dmesg output what are other ways to get meaningful output to diagnose how the system is loading/installing? Can I remove modules and packages that I do not need. I am thinking in terms of those that relate to networ cards I do not use (3com, etc) Thank you, -- Bill Amsterdam, NL |
