You will need to upgrade your kernel to 2.4.18

and 

insmod the kernel mod from

http://trinux.sf.net/modules/2.4.18/fs/ext3/ext3.o  (this is close)

I think you should be able to mount it (and write of course--I think I did
this once) but I don't have any utils for creating filesytems.
