You should be able to pass ramdisk_size=7168, this may be the problem because the RAMDISK doesn't seem to recognize this switch. I'll try the 7168 compiled into the kernel to find out whether this makes a difference. It may be a uml bug or just the lack of this feature. If you can, please send or post that .config just in case it is a weird interaction in the kernel.
