Given that manual pages are relatively small ascii files (not normal
troff/groff or whatever) I don't see much advantage in doing this.

Is the goal to reduce the package size or prevent the /usr filesystem from
filling up?

By the way, you might want to take a look at the latest initrd.gz build in
