I find it hard to believe that the ide image doesn't work -- I'm using
pcmcia-cs -- not the pcmcia support in the 2.4.5. You won't be able to fit
the pcmcia kernel packages on the boot floppy but if you install them
afterwards, from floppies or whatever (you may have to run the init
scripts in /etc/init.d or /etc/init.m manually) but there should be
nothing preventing them from working.

I'm building some new kernels for testing now. Hopefully can release them
tomorrow.

Probably hard, because you'd have to build a bunch of kernel packages
(especially for PCMCIA, which can't be built into the kernel in 2.2.x)
