I changed $HOME/.trigger/trigger.config to assign "kph" to speedunit, but Trigger Rally always show MPH.
I then changed the same setting in /etc/trigger-rally.config.defs, with the same result.
I am running version 0.6.5 (build: Jul 14 2017 at 18:19:49) as shipped by Ubuntu 17.10.

You are editing the wrong configuration file. Since version 0.6.3 the configuration is in file:
$HOME/.trigger-rally/trigger-rally-VERSION.configThank you! I didn't notice there were two directories.
