Torsmo should have support for truetype fonts and font
anti-aliasing.

    I agree. However, I like the idea of torsmo a lightweight
    and requiring nothing but xlib. While I think a full fork
    or the project would be unnecessary, I think that xft should
    be disabled by default, and selectable by a configure flag.
    (eg. ./configure --with-xft).

    I've already looked into this some, seems like it will take
    a fair amount of coding to work in this manner. I plan to
    work on it, but don't expect anything quickly.

    After looking at this some more, it actaully shouldn't be
    too hard. I'll post again tommorrow if I make any progress

    Just in case anybody is actually reading this, i've got xft
    in torsmo working. It'll be some time before it works
    nicely (lots of stuff hard coded right now, plus poor
    implementation choices on my part....), but with this small
    success I plan to push on with it.
