#4 Tonic's tray icon does not show in KDE
Unfortunelly it is an issue I cannot resolve myself. Read more about it here: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6448876 , it is resovled for Dolphin b02 - Java 7 in the works. Hopefully Sun will backport it to Java 6 update 1. And you cannot even vote for that :(.
WORKAROUND: Use latest Java 7 builds. Get it from jdk7.dev.java.net

Works with KDE 3.5.6 and Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-ea-b01) and with 1.5.0_09 (update 9) too. Looks like KDE upgrade fixed the problem. I leave this bug open for information to users.
