the menubutton "menu" indicator (controlled by
indicatoron) is always present on Aqua tcl/tk (e.g. MacOS X
10.3.4, Aqua tcl/tk 8.4.7 but also for every earlier version I
tried).
If one sets indicatoron=0 one sees that the menu becomes
narrower (by approximately the width of the menu
indicator) but the indicator is still there; the space is taken
out of the area used for displaying the text of the
menubutton.
As a consequence, the displayed text may become
truncated. This truncation occurs quite reliably if the font
size is small (less than 13 point or so), at least for my
menubuttons which typically have 3-5 characters in their
text.
