As you probably have guessed, I currently don't have very much time to spend on tkimg. All I did was supply 2 bug-fixes (for bugs #565784 and #571827, which are attached to the resp. bug-reports) but I didn't even have time to set up CVS to commit those myself ;-( I would personally prefer option 2b1 because it takes less work, but I agree with Andreas that 2b2 would be better. The disadvantage of 2b2 is that we would create our own version of the support libraries, which means we would have to support those modifications until the original group accepts them in the official distribution. Many systems already have the support-libraries on board, so we cannot depend on the availability of the Stub-table. Because of this maintainance, Img currently tries to implement 2b1. The disadvantage of 2b1 is that other packages like Trf and TrfCrypt need the same functionality. This would suggest preparing a TIP for inclusion in Tcl (8.5 or 9.0), which I definitely would be in favor of! This would also open the way to use the VFS system, so dll's can be loaded dynamically from other file systems. We would get a variant of 2b1: "Via explicit usage of the dyn.loader provided by Tcl". However, Andreas' different options don't exclude each other, as he already notes: On systems without dynamical linking, statical linking is the only option. And if some support library starts to provide a kind of Stub-table, that would surely be advanteouge to use. Regards, - -- Jan Nijtmans email: jan...@xs... ------- End of Forwarded Message |
