Uh, sorry, that was supposed to be LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib", but whatever the case it doesn't seem like it takes anyway. Looks like a hand edit may be in order... so, uh, after configure is run, if you edit src/Makefile and look for the TF tf$(X) line, you'll see one below if with -Lpcre-2.08 and if you add -L/usr/local/lib to it, that might do it... but we could be barking up the wrong tree. I don't have any Linux boxes to verify the location of libssl.
